UT Austin’s Gulf Coast DesignLab partnered with Galveston’s collective non-profit Artist Boat to design and build multiple pavilions over the course of three semesters, each with a specific function. The STORE and FRAME pavilions are both for curated use such as storing kayaking equipment and as a gathering area for visitors to share their experiences. The OBSERVE pavilion, which is open to the public, offers a shaded area for visitors to view migratory birds within the marsh.

Easterwood Architects’ Studio shared their expertise to help the students design in the gulf coast, particularly focusing on resiliency while respecting the local environment. The pavilions received recognition through design and planning awards from both the City of Galveston and UT Austin’s School of Architecture.
